Navaratri is a 9-night festival celebrating Goddess Durga’s victories over the demons that represent the negative qualities that keep us from realising our true, eternal self. The Divine Mother, in the form of Durga Maa, is the Remover of Miseries. She appears in 9 different forms, each an embodiment of the qualities that one needs to advance on the spiritual path.
Kalaratri Devi is dark: the colour of night and infinity. She destroys evil and took this particular form and appearance in order to fight demons and purify the world to save Her children. Although She appears terrifying, She is very soft and innocent. She is known as the One who is always giving, who is always doing good for Her devotees. She accepts everything from the devotee, absorbing both the good and the bad. We pray to Her to help us be free and really surrender to the Divine so we can be our true Self. Her colour is black.
