Gurupurnima is the day we devote to honouring our beloved satguru, Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishwananda. It is a time to come together as a community to shower Guruji with love and gratitude for all the blessings and guidance He gives us throughout the year.

Gurupurnima was originally celebrated in memory of the great sage Veda Vyasa. He was a Divine Incarnation of the Lord who compiled the four Vedas, wrote the 18 major Puranas, the Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagavatam. It was established as a day to venerate the guru who masterfully guides His devotees to the Lotus Feet of the Lord.

During the celebration Maha Abhisheka and Guru Gita yagna will be held. Abhishekam is a beautiful bathing ritual where five different substances are poured onto the deity. These substances symbolise the five elements of our physical nature and our lower nature emotional qualities. Through the Grace of the deities, these elements, our five senses and the mind are purified and transformed in a positive way. During the full moon, the water element in our bodies is especially activated, which often leads to increased emotionality and negativity. Witnessing abhishekam, either in person or via livestream, transforms this negativity and helps to balance and purify the natural elements of the body. During abhishekam, OM Chanting will take place – a simple but very effective Atma Kriya Yoga technique. With the blessings and guidance of spiritual masters Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishvananda and Mahavatar Babaji, OM Chanting uses the transformational power of OM to activate the self-healing potential of participants. It purifies and transforms on all levels – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. The vibrational waves created by the OM Chanting practise spreads out in a 2-kilometre radius, creating a harmonious, peaceful environment and a unity between humans and nature.
