Navaratri is a 9-night festival celebrating Goddess Durga’s victories over the demons that represent the negative qualities that keep us from realising our true, eternal self. The Divine Mother, in the form of Durga Maa, is the Remover of Miseries. She appears in 9 different forms, each an embodiment of the qualities that one needs to advance on the spiritual path.
Maha Gauri’s white skin and clothing symbolises the aspect of our true Self, which is without stain or impurity. She wants us to cross over the limitations of our minds so that we can realise that we are ever-pure, ever-free. She shows us that it’s not what, or how much, we’ve done, but how we are doing it, that matters. When things are done out of Love, the Divine will run to us. We pray for Maha Gauri’s Grace to cleanse us from the karma of our past sins and to help us attain the Feet of the Lord. Her colour is pastel, light colours.
